Dear Editor Cosmetic Surgery News:
The Medical board of California is a state agency
responsible for licensing and regulating California physicians. As part of that
responsibility, the Board, in response to changing market forces and highly publicized,
recent incidents of patient harm resulting from some cosmetic surgery procedures, has
created a Committee on plastic Surgery. The Committee is currently collecting
information about training, procedure complications, other outcomes, insurer criteria,
etc. in this growing and complex area of medical pratice. Another focus of the
Committee involves educating the public about what questions to ask when contemplating
cosmetic surgery. As President of the Board, I write to ask your assistance in this
effort.
Your magazine is a leader in addressing issues of

you cover are health and beauty-related topics, some of which involve cosmetic surgical
procedures. As I'm sure you are aware, all surgery carries inherent risks, requiring
an informed consent as well as an informed consumer. The enclosed article offers valuable questions to ask before undergoing
