If you're thinking about laser surgery to correct your vision, there's another option you should strongly consider before making a decision. Intacs prescription inserts provide crisp, clear, maintenance-free vision, and are ideal for many individuals with low amounts of nearsightedness who are very particular about their quality of vision. What's more, Intacs inserts are a flexible alternative in that they can be replaced or removed if your vision correction needs change.

An intraocular lens (IOL) is an implanted lens in the eye, usually replacing the existing crystalline lens because it has been clouded over by a cataract. It usually consists of a small plastic lens with plastic side struts, called haptics, that hold the lens in place within the capsular bag inside the eye. Intraocular lens are  made of a flexible material. Most Intraocular lens today are  lenses matched to single distance vision. However, other types are available, such as multifocal IOLs which provide the patient with multiple-focused vision. The procedure can be done under local anesthesia with the patient awake throughout the operation, and usually takes less than 30 minutes in the hands of an experienced ophthalmologist. The recovery period is about 2-3 weeks. After surgery, patients should avoid strenuous exercise or anything else that significantly increases blood pressure.
