Botox has enjoyed growing popularity over the last few years as an
effective treatment for lateral crow's feet and frown lines. Injected
through the skin into the underlying muscle, Botox works by paralyzing
the muscles responsible for causing the wrinkles. Since the muscle
can't continue to function, lines soften and in some instances, are
eliminated. Botox is not permanent, lasting anywhere between four to
six months. It is often used in conjunction with other skin refinishing
treatments for maximum results.
Risks & Reactions
Risks include an allergic reaction to the toxin, swelling, redness,
bruising, numbness, and headaches. Rarely, a reduced blinking reflex,
which may last for several months, can cause corneal exposure and
ulceration.
